YouTube is stepping up its AI game with two new features designed to make content discovery faster and more interactive. These AI features on YouTube include a smarter search experience powered by AI and a more accessible conversational assistant. Both new features are now being tested with YouTube Premium users in the U.S.

One of the standout features is the AI-generated search carousel. If you are searching for things like best beaches in Hawaii or top smartphones 2025, you might now see a highlighted video at the top, followed by a scrollable carousel of related content. Along with that, YouTube adds a short AI-generated summary to give you a quick idea of what the topic is about. This feature is currently available to Premium users on Android and iOS and is part of an early test that runs until July 30, 2025. Users who want to try it out can opt in through the YouTube New Features hub.

In the blog post, YouTube also announced that it is broadening access to its conversational AI assistant, a feature that lets you interact with videos in a whole new way. If you’re looking for a summary of the video you’re watching, are interested in related content, or want to test your knowledge with a quick quiz, this feature has you covered—without stopping the video. It started as a Premium-only feature in 2023, but now, even some non-Premium users in the U.S. are getting to test it.

These new tools reflect a growing trend across Google’s platforms, blending AI with everyday digital experiences. Recently, Google started testing Audio AI Overviews for search queries, which provide spoken summaries for search results, helping users find answers without even reading.

While the changes are fascinating for users, they bring new challenges for creators. AI previews and summaries could reduce watch time on videos. YouTube has not commented on that directly, but it is clear they are trying to strike a balance between improving user experience and supporting creators.

As of now, both  AI features on YouTube are only available in English and limited to mobile users in the United States. There is no word yet on a global release, but with testing underway, we can likely expect more updates in the months ahead.
